Day 279

May 4, 2011

Good day to you all! So, I had an idea the other day. I was listening to a Presidents of the United States of America song and this idea struck my brain with such intensity that I literally said, “hmm, that’s a good idea.” Because of this, I have decided to dedicate today’s two pages to songs inspired by or written for movies. I have selected five songs that totally kick butt, they are my Top Five Movie Songs!

Right away, I have to admit that I needed to go and look up songs inspired by or made for movies. I was only able to think of, like, two songs off the top of my head (one of which is the Presidents song I was listening to that made me think of this whole thing). I knew that I had heard other songs inspired by movies, but it was one of those things that as soon as you start trying to think about something, it is gone.

Okay, so here goes. Bringing up the rear, at number five, Night of the Living Dead by the Misfits.

I have never been a huge Misfits fan, but I do like some of their music. This song isn’t that appealing to me musically, but the lyrics make me happy. Anyone that has read my blog knows that I am a fan of zombies (I liked zombies before it was cool), and because of that, I am down with this song. They lyrics are so very zombie, its the best! My favorite lyric from the song is, “Pre-dawn corpses come to life”. They don’t even have to say the actual name of the song, that right there is it, in prettier language. Granted, this is no lyrical masterpiece, but you have to give it credit. My second favorite lyric is “Ripped up like shredded wheat”. Yeah, that is totally descriptive. I used to eat regular shredded wheat, not the cool little mini-wheats I munch now days, but the big-wheats. The ones you had to rip apart to get into the bowl and then cover with about a pound of sugar to make edible. You know the ones, the kind your grandpa used to eat ever morning to ensure a good bowl movement, yeah, those. He would eat a jumbo-wheat with a couple cups of coffee and spend the rest of the pre-noon hours in the bathroom with the paper and an air-freshener.

Next up in the list, number four, is Pet Semetary by the Ramones.

I love this song. My friend Will who writes VeggieMacabre introduced this song to me when we were watching Pet Semetary one day; I’ve loved it ever since. The video is pretty awesome too, which is why I was sure to include it here. If you watch the video you will recognize that it really isn’t all that awesomely produced. It is really, kind of strangely random and bizarre. There are figures that go by all the time that make you go, “what the hell was that?” The really cool part though is watching how they slowly go deeper and deeper into the grave as they play. I donno, I just love watching the video, its randomly awesome and the song is catchy. You will find yourself singing it later, I promise.

Hitting our middle spot, at numero three is Flash by Queen.

This song was made for the 1980 movie Flash Gordon. I have not seen the movie, but I love the song. It makes me totally happy. There is one thing that I am always up to listen to, and that is Queen. I have not heard a Queen song that I didn’t like. Unfortunately there are other songs that I do like more, mostly because they either rock harder or entertain the poo out of me. That is why Flash is hitting at the middle of the list rather than in the one or two spot. Still a great song, and I recommend you hit play up there on that player. Do it, do it now! Faster! Psh, Flash Gordon would have hit that thing ages ago.

Number two in the list, wow this thing is going way too fast and easy to write, thats nuts. Anyway, number two, Deathstar by the Presidents of the United States of America.

This song totally entertains the poo out of me! I absolutely love it. Every time I listen to it I get so happy. There really is no way to listen to this song and not giggle a little. The Presidents have some awesome songs all around, but this one is fantastic. If you ever get a chance to see them live I recommend that you do it. I saw them earlier this year and they did amazing things to my ears. The song is obviously about the Deathstar from Starwars, and it is fantastic. I think my favorite lyric is, “Black hearted ball roll the devils dice, destroy it one more time cause it’s so good they built it twice”. It just tickles me A LOT! Click play, and thank me later.  Ohh, and May the 4th be with you.

And, at number one, oh yes, we’re there already and you know you have been wanting it so bad. You just can’t wait another second! It is Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult.

I love The BOC, I think they rock some socks off. Heck, they rock shoes, socks, and pants off, but they leave the shirt, why, ’cause the shirt has a BOC symbol on it of course! Gosh yall are dense. Really, this song is just pretty dang sweet. I highly recommend turning up your speakers, hitting play, and rocking. It just has a good rhythm and and it just sounds like what you would hear in your head when Godzilla was coming for you. It sounds powerful, frightening and it…well, rocks!

So there you have it. That is my Top Five Movie Songs. Sorry if you disagree with me, but hey, its my blog.
